Conference about European Networks involving musicians and professionals
Music Moves Europe (MME) is the framework for the European Commission’s initiatives and actions in support of the European music sector. This program initiated and supports many international networks, some of which were formed for just a few years-long project, some existing for decades.
But what are these networks for? What is their role, why and how do they influence or help the development of cultural actors? Are these networks mainly for music business professionals, or do musicians have direct benefit as well?
Where do the borders and the interest of governmental institutions, public NGOs or nonprofit organisations and for-profit companies cross or meet? Is there a sustainable interaction between these?
Is it necessary to form more and more networks, or it is enough just to join existing ones? Are smaller networks more efficient, or are bigger networks more powerful? What do these networks give to their members, and what are the real needs of the members or partners? Is it better to have a registered legal entity as an association, or does it work as well as informal network based on partnerships? What are the possible financial sources and how are those used?
How can a national network interact with an international one? How can different networks cross each-other and support each-other’s work in a mutually beneficial manner?
How can all these networks really help MUSIC to MOVE EUROPE?
The purpose of this conference is not to give clear answers and recipes to all questions; its goal is to launch a discussion about the role and the utility of international and national networks in Europe within the music industry. It is an open discussion involving professionals and musicians as well with different experiences and challenges, for better understanding of each-others’ ideas and needs and to give a new vision to our common future work.
